No Uniform Day Fundraiser – Charlie Upton

On 28th February 2025, we held a No Uniform Day to raise funds for Charlie Upton, a past pupil of the school.  Charlie has excelled over the years at angling and has qualified to represent Ireland in the Youth Angling Championships in Spain, in August 2025.  From everyone in Glenmore N.S. we wish Charlie every success at the championships and we are delighted for him.  Best of Luck Charlie!

Here is a word of thanks from Charlie and a summary of his achievements to date…

Thank you for the non uniform day, the funds raised will go towards the gear I need to represent Ireland in Spain, Charlie “

Following a number of extremely tricky heats, Charlie was selected to represent Ireland in the Youth Angling Championships Spain 2025. He along with his under 4 team members are taking to the World Stage, under 15, against the best in the world in August.

Charlie began his fishing passion quite young, 4 years of age surprisingly and became a member of local New Ross, Oaklands Lake Coarse Angling.
Years of learning techniques and development.  From there, he decided to train for the Worlds. He had to participate in numerous pre matches to make it to selection board. Then this was  broken down to last 5, top Angling YouthTeam last year, choosen from all over Ireland.
Charlie dedicates hours of fishing every week, and has had the opportunity to travel around Ireland, bagging a number of titles along the way.
“I give it my best every day, and love it” Charlie

Only recently he broke his own personal best, in Oaklands for the 7th round of the Ger Hennesy Winter league.
“Well what can we say our youngest angler on the bank today under 15 youth international Charlie Upton smashed up all the senior anglers with a incredible 80.800kg from end peg 24 massive well done Charlie”
